Meet Clin A/ Professor Dr Jens Carsten Ritter FEBVS, FRACS, PhD
Leading Australian artery and vein surgeon
Dr Carsten Ritter is a highly experienced vascular and endovascular surgeon, based in Perth. He combines comprehensive expertise with a warm patient-centred approach, taking the time to support patients through the overwhelming experience of surgery.
He is multilingual, and able to consult in English and German.
An internationally trained vein surgeon with over 20 years’ experience, he manages all aspects of vascular disease, including venous and arterial pathologies. Providing state-of-the-art treatment, he prioritises high-end, minimally invasive techniques when possible or open surgery when necessary.
Dr Ritter trained and worked at internationally renowned centres like University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany, as well as King’s College and the University Hospital of South Manchester in the UK, before relocating to Australia in 2011. At Fiona Stanley Hospital, he is a senior consultant and the surgical lead of the multidisciplinary diabetic foot unit, which is recognised nationwide as a centre of excellence for acute diabetic foot complications.

serving as an elected member of the RACS Board of Vascular Surgery – the highest committee overseeing, regulating and setting the standards for the vascular training program in Australasia.

Fellowship in General and Vascular Surgery in Germany, European Fellowship in Vascular Surgery, RACS Fellowship in Vascular Surgery and a PhD in human genetics.
regular charity work in Africa, establishing the only vascular trauma course on the continent in Addis Ababa.
he is the surgical lead for the Fiona Stanley Multidisciplinary Foot Unit (MDFU), one of the country's highly recognised diabetic foot centres.
Dr Ritter’s special interests include diabetes-related vascular disease, complex infrainguinal interventions and complex aneurysms.
Supported by an expert and empathetic team, Dr Ritter can support patients through his private practice or via public appointments at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
